So we are late to get on this bandwagon, but I got the entire first series of the show Swingtown last night.
The wife and I began to watch it skeptically, but have been somewhat pleased so far. Swingtown is a CBS series set in 1976 about a family of vanillas (non swingers) that move to a new neighborhood and discover their “extra cool” neighbors are swingers. The couple quickly converts and loses touch with the vanilla friends from their past.
If you havn’t been in the lifestyle then you don’t know how right on this is to a certain degree. There is alot of truth in the sentiments the show portrays in the first few episodes. Anyone in the lifestyle can agree you are bound to lose touch with vanilla friends in your life. Vanilla friends quickly start to feel a bit unnatural to be around. You swing friends are not just sex, but also a circle of friends you can be 100% yourself around. There is alot of truth into how uncofortable your old friends will begin to feel. This may be why so many swingers are constantly recruiting, to increase the number of friends you can be natural around.
Half the thrill of the lifestyle for us is the ability to be free and feel free to dance, play and laugh with no worry about image or reservations.
The show also very accurately portrayed the first experience of the lead characters. The scene with the two first timers with the swinging neighbors felt just like it has in my living room with first timers we have played with. The few minutes where they all stare at each other and wonder what will initiate the play is right on.
And lastly, the next morning scene where the lead characters are having insane sex and very aroused and liberated after what they did the night before is right on. After our first experience i never felt the same again. That may seem a bit like a bottled answer but it is true. You and your partner will never view your sex together the same as all the walls and secrets are finally 100% gone.
We just wish HBO had done this series so it wouldn’t be such a vanilla version of non-vanilla fun.
